Geography
Marutea Nord is an atoll in the Tuamotu Archipelago. It is 42 km long and 17 km wide. This atoll is very low and its reef is often awash. Marutea Nord should not be confused with Marutea Sud located in the far south-eastern reaches of the Tuamotu Archipelago at 21˚ 30'S., 135˚ 32'W.
Other names: Taunga tauranga-e-havana, Furneaux Island
Location: 17°07′S 143°11′W. It is located 24 km to the southeast of Makemo Atoll and 30 km southwest of Nihiru Atoll.
Area: 2.7 km² (land) and 458 km² (lagoon)
Population: uninhabited

Geography
Nihiru is an atoll in the Tuamotu Archipelago. It is 14 km long and 10.5 km wide.
Another name: Nikia
Location: 16°44′S 142°50′W. It is located 49 km to the east of Makemo Atoll and 30 km northeast of Marutea Atoll.
Area: 20 km² (land) and 79 km² (lagoon)
Population: 11 (2012)

1820 - The first recorded European to arrive to Nihiru was Russian oceanic explorer Fabian Gottlieb von Bellingshausen. He named this atoll Nigeri.
