History
Temoe was inhabited by Polynesians until 1838. There are ancient Polynesian archaeological remains, including temple (marae) that had been built before the atoll was discovered by Europeans.
1686 – The atoll was probably sighted by Edward Davis. But there is no historical proof of this fact.
1797 – James Wilson on the ship Duff in 1797 arrived at Temoe. He named it Crescent Island.
1838 - Christian missionaries moved all the inhabitants of Temoe to Mangareva to help in construction work.
