Geography
Tahanea is an atoll in the Tuamotu Archipelago. It is 48 km long and 15.2 km wide.
Another name: Tchitchagoff
Location: 16°50′S 144°45′W. The atoll is located 12 km to the east of Faaite Atoll.
Area: 7.7 km² (land) and 522.5 km² (lagoon)
Population: The atoll is Uninhabited. However, it is visited occasionally by islanders from neighbouring atolls.

History
9 November 1774 - Domingo de Boenechea on ship Aguila discovered the atoll for Europe. He named it San Julián.
1820 - Fabian Gottlieb von Bellingshausen visited the atoll. He named it Tchitchagoff.
