Geography
Raroia is an atoll in the Tuamotu Archipelago. It is 43 km long and 14 km wide.
Other names: Raro-nuku, Barclay
Location: 16°01′S 142°26′W. The atoll is located 740 km northeast of Tahiti and 6 km southwest of Takume.
Area: 41 km² (land) and 359 km² (lagoon)
Population: 233 (2012)
Largest settlement: Garumaoa

History
14 February 1606 - Pedro Fernandes de Queirós was the first European to see the atoll.
1820 - Fabian Gottlieb von Bellingshausen sighted the atoll. He called the atoll Barclay de Tolly.
26 December 1840 - Charles Wilkes visited the atoll.
1947 - Thor Heyerdahl's Kon-Tiki raft arrived in Raroia after its 101-day journey from South America.
April 2006 - Raroia Airport began serving the air transportation.
