Takume Atoll
Geography
Takume is an atoll in the Tuamotu Archipelago. It is 24 km long and 5 km wide. Takume has many small motus (coral islets) on its reef; most are located on its eastern fringes.
Other names: Pukamaru, Wolkonsky
Location: 15°48′S 142°12′W. The atoll is located 6 km northeast of Raroia and 128 kilometres to the west of Fangatau.
Area: 5 km² (land) and 43.5 km² (lagoon)
Population: 116 (2012)
Largest settlement: Ohomo

History
Takume and Raroia were called Napaite, "the Twins" (ite, two), by the ancient Paumotu people.
February 1606 - Pedro Fernández de Quirós was probably the first European to arrive to the atoll.
1820 – Takume atoll was visited by Fabian Gottlieb von Bellingshausen. He named it Wolkonsky Atoll.
1996 - Takume Airport was inaugurated.
